On June 25, 2026, Changlongshan Pumped Storage Power Station in Anji County, Zhejiang Province — the birthplace of the philosophy “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” — celebrated the fifth anniversary of commercial commissioning of its first generating unit. Known as East China’s largest “Super Power Bank”, the station shines like a pearl nestled amid the Tianmu Mountains. Its vast reservoirs store massive renewable energy, continuously supplying the community with safe, high-quality, eco-friendly and flexibly regulated hydropower energy.

The station is the first pumped storage facility fully invested, built and operated by China Three Gorges Corporation (“CTG”). Since its launch, it has delivered a total of 11.4 TWh of clean power, equal to saving around 3.45 million tons of standard coal. To date, its units have recorded more than 29,300 safe start-stop operations, with a peak daily cycling frequency of 56 times. The station has executed 21 emergency grid response missions and reliably fulfilled power guarantee assignments for 19 key major events, such as the 20th CPC National Congress, Hangzhou Asian Games and China International Import Expo.

In 2024, China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. (“CYPC”) was officially entrusted with the operation and maintenance of the Changlongshan Pumped Storage Power Station. As CYPC’s onsite operating entity for the station, Changlongshan Power Plant started from scratch and developed CTG’s first replicable O&M management system specially tailored for pumped storage stations. To underpin the system, the team compiled a complete set of documents including 75 administrative management rules, 53 overhaul and maintenance specifications, 25 operational procedures, 176 work instructions and 56 operating guides. An end-to-end safety management system has been established. In 2025, the station attained Level 1 Certification of the Standardization of Electric Power Work Safety, amassing valuable replicable experience for the O&M of CTG’s upcoming pumped storage projects.

Code 2: Prioritize Refined Management to Build a Highly Reliable Grid Regulation Hub

Upholding the philosophy of “Three Refinements” (namely, Precise Dispatching, Lean Operation and Meticulous Maintenance), the station has delivered one-off successful start-stop of all units after each overhaul and maintenance. Its unit start-stop success rate and equivalent availability factor (EAF) have hit record highs time and again. In 2025, the station realized annual zero unscheduled shutdown for the first time. Boasting top-tier lean O&M performance across East China, it gives full play to its role as a critical grid regulation hub and provides strong support for the integration of regional clean energy.

Code 3: Take Intelligence as the Engine to Fuel Robust Scientific & Technological Innovation

Confronted with tough operating conditions of high water head, high rotating speed and high pressure, the station advances technological innovation and further empowers production via smart technologies. It has built the country’s first fully self-developed and controllable semi-physical simulation platform dedicated to pumped storage units, shifting equipment management towards trend-based control. Supported by intelligent inspection robots and multi-dimensional sensing devices, an all-weather, blind-spot-free intelligent sensing network has been constructed, enabling the “Super Power Bank” to operate efficiently with digital intelligence.

Code 4: Put People at the Center to Foster a High-Caliber Pumped Storage Talent Team

The station has developed a fast-track talent growth model for pumped storage O&M staff featuring unique CTG characteristics. It has rolled out a full-spectrum training curriculum covering all pumped storage business segments, adopted a three-mentor apprenticeship training system, and formulated a post competency assessment mechanism. Delivering training for 1,500 participants on an annual average basis, it has cultivated a cohort of outstanding talents, such as winners of the national “Red Flag Cup” Team Leader Competition and Advanced Individuals in Technical Supervision of Zhejiang Province. It strives to serve as CTG’s talent reserve pool for its pumped storage business.

Code 5: Forge a Solid Foundation with Core Spirit to Rally Staff for Dedication and Progress
