Release time:2026-07-19

Passing the Torch Across a Century; Pursuing Excellence Through Steadfast Craftsmanship. On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, to further advance the reform of the industrial workforce, the 37th National Large-Scale Hydropower Unit Maintenance (Hydraulic Turbine Maintenance Worker) Vocational Skills Competition for the Power Industry was successfully held from June 30 to July 3 at the Baihetan Hydropower Plant on the Jinsha River. This competition was jointly hosted by the National Committee of China Energy, Chemical and Geological Workers' Union, the Yunnan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, and the Trade Union Committee of China Three Gorges Corporation, and co-organized by China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. (CYPC) and the Yunnan Coal, Electric Power and Chemical Workers' Union.

Forty teams comprising 120 frontline workers from 17 power enterprises nationwide—including China Southern Power Grid, China Huaneng Group, China Datang Corporation, China Huadian Corporation, State Power Investment Corporation, China Three Gorges Corporation, and China Energy Investment Corporation—gathered to compete at the site of the world's most powerful 1,000 MW hydro-generating units. The contest served as a platform for participants to hone their expertise through rivalry and temper their craftsmanship in competition, showcasing both technical mastery and unwavering resolve.

The competition consisted of two main sections: a theoretical examination and a practical assessment. The theoretical examination covered maintenance standards, installation specifications, and safety regulations. In the practical segment, individual tasks tested seal fabrication as well as pump-motor concentricity and levelness adjustment, while the team event focused on shaft alignment measurement and adjustment for hydro-generator units. Throughout the contest, contestants demonstrated composure and strict adherence to operational protocols. With seamless teamwork, they completed all assessments to high standards within the allotted time. After intense competition, five contestants from CYPC—HE Hongyun, ZENG Fanqiang, ZHOU Kai, HAN Puchang, and HOU Guosheng—stood out and won the first prize in the individual category. The Baihetan Hydropower Plant Team from CYPC, and the joint team comprising the Three Gorges Hydropower, Gezhouba Hydropower Plant, and Xiangjiaba Hydropower Plant, secured the first prize in the team category with their outstanding capabilities, fully demonstrating the exquisite skills and professional excellence of hydropower industry workers in the new era.

China now leads the world in total installed hydropower capacity. As the stabilizer and regulator of a clean, low-carbon energy system, hydropower maintenance expertise serves as the cornerstone for ensuring unit safety and reliability while underpinning the development of the new power system. Designed to advance training and empower the workforce through competition, this event facilitated the cross-enterprise sharing of advanced maintenance techniques and the cross-regional exchange of highly skilled professionals. This event represents a vital initiative to mobilize power industry workers in driving forward the nation's energy development agenda.

As the secretariat of the National Large Hydropower Plant (Station) Labor Competition and the specific organizer of this event, CYPC resolutely fulfilled its mission as a central enterprise, ensuring the standardized and efficient implementation of the competition with a mature event management system, and providing a high-quality platform for the national power industry to showcase skills and exchange expertise. The competition has concluded, yet the pursuit of craftsmanship is boundless.
