On June 11, He Hongxin, Assistant President of China Three Gorges Corporation, Secretary of Party Committee and Vice Chairman of China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. (CYPC), visited the Zhangye Pumped Storage Power Station in Gansu, including the upper and lower reservoirs and the main powerhouse. During these visits, he was briefed on the production and operation of China Yangtze Power Renewables Co., Ltd. (CYPR) and the construction management of the power station, and put forward specific requirements for the current key tasks.
He Hongxin fully affirmed the achievements made by CYPR in its various undertakings and spoke highly of the "Zhangye experience" developed during the construction of the Zhangye Pumped Storage Power Station in Gansu. He emphasized that CYPR should stay focused on its goal of becoming a pacesetter in the high-quality development of the pumped storage business. Grounded in its dual roles as an investment and O&M entity, the company must strictly fulfill its project construction management responsibilities and rigorously implement project safety, quality, and cost control. The company should continue improving the management system for the pumped storage business, accelerate the development of intensive O&M and standardized operations, build core competencies, and set a benchmark for the industry. CYPR should also explore market-oriented development pathways and make scientifically sound plans for long-term strategic positioning. Furthermore, the company must deepen its educational efforts to establish and practice a correct approach to governance performance, ensure that Party building is deeply integrated with production and business operations so that they advance in tandem, and leverage high-quality Party building to guide and safeguard the company's high-quality development.
The Zhangye Pumped Storage Power Station in Gansu, as the first pumped storage power station invested by CYPC, is a key project under the national 14th Five-Year Plan, provincial key project of Gansu Province, and key development project of China Three Gorges Corporation, with a total installed capacity of 1,400 MW. The main works commenced in 2023, and concrete pouring for the main powerhouse is currently underway, with the first unit expected to commence commercial operation in 2028.
Heads from relevant department and units of CYPC were part of the visit.
