Recently, the China Electricity Council (CEC) announced the winners of the 2025 Power Innovation Award. The "Smart Hydropower Plant IEC/IEEE Dual-Logo International Standard and National Standards Series" was awarded the sole Special Prize in the technical standards category for its pioneering innovation and global leadership.
The Power Innovation Award, established by the CEC, is a national industry award designed to foster scientific research, accelerate independent innovation, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and drive high-quality development across the power industry. Since its inception in 2014, the award has recognized innovative achievements spanning multiple domains, including power technology application, digitalization achievements, power system construction, and technical standards. The "Smart Hydropower Plant IEC/IEEE Dual-Logo International Standard and National Standards Series", submitted by CYPC, stood out among over a thousand entries, claiming the top prize.
This standard is the first in the smart hydropower sector to achieve dual compliance with the requirements of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards, achieving Dual-Logo certification. This standard, in conjunction with a series of Chinese national standards, aims to achieve "equipment interoperability, data sharing, and system collaboration." It provides comprehensive specifications for smart sensing, communication networks, data governance, control optimization, and security. By doing so, it empowers practical applications like smart monitoring, fault prediction, and digital twins, ultimately establishing a unified technical system that covers the entire lifecycle of hydropower stations, from design and construction to operation and maintenance. This achievement effectively addresses critical challenges, including the absence of international smart hydropower standards and fragmented technical systems. Having been deployed in multiple large-scale hydropower stations, it has significantly enhanced operational safety and efficiency. Furthermore, it bolsters the large-scale development of clean energy and provides a standardized foundation for the construction of new power systems.
