Jinsha River Roars, Hydropower Surges!
Release time:2025-09-01

On August 27, following the full-capacity operation of the Wudongde and Xiluodu hydropower plants, all four cascade hydropower plants along the lower Jinsha River, Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, and Xiangjiaba, operated by CYPC, a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation, reached full-capacity generation for 2025. Their combined daily generation exceeded 800 GWh, setting a new annual record, meeting the daily electricity demand of 270 million people, and providing a strong boost to power supply stability.

Since the start of this summer, many regions have suffered persistent heat waves, with provinces such as Zhejiang and Jiangsu issuing continuous high-temperature warnings. As a result, nationwide electricity demand has repeatedly hit record highs. In the face of such an extreme test, CYPC proactively shouldered its responsibilities. Following the principle of "Lean Operation and Meticulous Maintenance", the company strengthened inspections of generating units, closely tracked and evaluated equipment performance, addressed defects promptly, and ensured the uninterrupted, safe, and stable operation of generating units under long-term and heavy-load conditions. Meanwhile, under the coordinated guidance of superior dispatching bodies including the Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources (CWRC), State Grid Corporation of China, and China Southern Power Grid, the company implemented precise dispatching and accurate forecasting, formulated rational dispatching strategies, and scientifically optimized reservoir operations, ensuring that all units generated electricity to their maximum capacity.

During the peak summer consumption period, all 54 generating units of the four cascade hydropower plants on the lower reaches of the Jinsha River ran at full capacity for two consecutive days from August 26 to 27. With peak full-capacity output surpassing 42 GW, this operation helped ease the power shortages in receiving regions effectively and highlighted the vital role of key national projects in securing the energy supply. Looking ahead, CYPC will continue to pursue lean operation and management of the world's largest clean energy corridor formed by the six cascade hydropower plants of Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba. By further optimizing the operation and management of these plants, the company will maximize the advantages of clean energy and provide more reliable power support for national energy security and sustainable economic and social development.
