TGHPP Fully Ensures the Electricity Supply to Power Distribution Areas under Heat Waves
Release time:2025-07-16

From July 6 to July 9, the number of peak operating units at the TGHPP reached 32, with a peak output of over 21 GW and an average daily power generation of 465 GWh. It provided abundant green electricity for the East and Central China regions, as well as provinces and cities such as Guangdong and Chongqing, effectively alleviating the electricity shortage caused by widespread heat waves.

Affected by the continuous hot weather, the electricity load in many parts of the country continues to rise, with Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei among other regions reaching record highs. As a backbone power source of West-East Power Transmission Project in China, TGHPP serves as a "cornerstone" and "pillar" for securing the nation's energy supply while ensuring flood control safety. In the first half of this year, its cumulative power generation has exceeded 34.2 TWh, equivalent to saving 10.31 million tons of standard coal and reducing 28.07 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Next, CYPC will closely monitor changes in water and rainfall regimes, and implement lean operation and management of the world's largest clean energy corridor represented by the TGHPP. Under the guidance of Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, State Grid and China Southern Power Grid, CYPC will carry out joint optimal operation of the cascade hydropower plants to ensure rigorous implementation of flood control and electricity supply security with equal priority.
