On June 26, the final of the Relay Protection Technician Competition under the 22nd Workers’ Vocational Skills Competition of Yunnan concluded at the Wudongde Hydropower Plant on the Jinsha River. This competition was guided by the National Committee of the China Energy, Chemical Geological Trade Union, hosted by the Yunnan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, and co-organized by CYPC Trade Union, CTG Yunnan Branch Trade Union among others.
As the primary co-organizer of the event, CYPC Trade Union meticulously organized and planned the event in alignment with competition requirements by forming a professional team to develop a full-process competition plan and complete equipment installation and testing ahead of schedule, providing robust technical support for the event. It exercised rigorous quality control over the competition by organizing specialized judge training, strengthening confidentiality management through signed confidentiality agreements, and standardizing competition procedures to guarantee impartiality. The Trade Union also provided premium services for the competition by establishing a team of professional volunteers to provide logistics support with rigorous attitude and meticulous service. These efforts ensured efficient and orderly operation of the event.
The competition drew high attention from major power groups. After multiple rounds of competitions, 81 contestants from 27 teams representing 8 central SOEs and 1 Yunnan provincial energy enterprise advanced to the final. The final, which consists of theoretical examination and practical examination, is designed to test the contestants' mastery of basic knowledge such as power systems, relay protection, national and industry technical standards, as well as their practical abilities in setting verification for conventional protection devices, fault analysis and elimination.
All participating teams and individuals fully leveraged their professional expertise, demonstrating their utmost prowess and competitive spirit on the field and showcasing the essential qualities expected of power industry workers in the new era. Ultimately, Trade Union Team 1 from CTG Yunnan Branch claimed the Team First Prize. Three teams from China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., State Development and Investment Corp, and State Power Investment Corporation Limited secured the Team Second Prize, while five teams from CTG, CGN, China Datang Corporation Ltd., and Yunnan Provincial Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd. earned the Team Third Prize.
This event established a platform for exchanges, mutual learning and collective advancement among energy enterprises in Yunnan and Sichuan, effectively igniting the work enthusiasm and innovative vitality of power industry workers and injecting strong momentum into the development of the clean energy base along the Jinsha River.
Going forward, as part of its efforts to promote the spirit of model workers, dedication, and craftsmanship, CYPC will persistently organize skills competitions and contests in wider scope, and actively host industry skills competitions to accelerate the fostering of a knowledge-based, skilled, and innovative workforce and provide robust talent support for the high-quality development of the energy sector.
