4.96 TWh! The World's Largest Clean Energy Corridor Powers the "Two Sessions"
Release time:2025-03-19

During the annual NPC and CPPCC sessions (the "Two Sessions"), the world's largest clean energy corridor, operated and managed by CYPC, achieved remarkable results in ensuring power supply. The cascade hydropower plants have generated a total of 4.96 TWh of electricity, with an average daily power generation of 620 GWh,, representing a 20% increase compared to the same period in the past five years, equivalent to meeting the daily electricity demand of 210 million people. These hydropower plants have strengthened energy security through lean operation, accurate control and technological innovation capabilities.

Under the guidance and support of Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, State Grid and China Southern Power Grid, CYPC has precisely balanced the diverse needs of power plant maintenance, reservoir drawdown, navigation, and water replenishment, achieving efficient utilization of water resources. During the Two Sessions, the maximum number of operational units reached 90, with a peak output capacity of 42,000 MW available to meet emergency demands. Leveraging the "dual insurance" mechanism of an intelligent monitoring system and targeted manual inspections,, and by innovatively using cutting-edge technologies such as holographic monitoring and intelligent audio inspection, CYPC has implemented round-the-clock "health diagnostics" on the equipment at the Gezhouba and Three Gorges hydropower plants,, to ensure that the units are able to generate sufficient electricity in a stable manner.

As an important pillar of the national energy strategy, the world's largest clean energy corridor, comprising six large hydropower plants namely Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges and Gezhouba, has a total installed capacity of 71,695 MW, and an average annual power generation of about 300 TWh. The successful completion of the power supply tasks during this Two Sessions has once again verified China's global leadership in the operation and dispatching of large-scale hydropower station cluster.
