Over 35 billion cubic meters! The replenishment volume of the world's largest clean energy corridor has reached a new record for the same period
Release time:2024-06-12

Since November 2023, the world's largest clean energy corridor has cumulatively supplied over 35 billion cubic meters of water to its middle and lower reaches, equivalent to the volume of 2,500 West Lakes. This has reached a new record for the same period in history and fully guaranteeing the demand for spring plough water in the lower reaches, advancing the "Golden Waterway" to attain optimal benefits.

The world's largest clean energy corridor consists of six cascade hydropower plants, namely Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba, shouldering multiple tasks such as flood control, navigation, water replenishment, ecology, and power generation. In 2023, all cascade reservoirs on the mainstream of Yangtze River for the first time achieved full capacity, with a maximum available water volume exceeding 40 billion cubic meters, laying a solid foundation for replenishing water during the current dry season (from November 2023 to June 2024). Meanwhile, with the integrated operation of cascade reservoirs, the average water level at Miaozui station, a representative navigation station downstream of the Three Gorges-Gezhouba cascade reservoir system, rose by 0.69m on year-on-year basis, which has facilitated smoother navigation along the "Golden Waterway".

With the arrival of the main flood season in the Yangtze River Basin, the dispatching focus of the world's largest clean energy corridor has shifted from water replenishment during the dry season to flood control. CYPC will continuously increase its efforts for forecasting and early warning, optimizing the operation and dispatch of cascade hydropower plants through continual evaluation of water and rainfall regimens, and sparing no effort in flood prevention, thus fully leveraging the comprehensive advantages of the world's largest clean energy corridor to ensure the safety of the Yangtze River and safeguard the lives and property of the people along it.
