Cold Wave Strikes China: the World's Largest Clean Energy Corridor Ensures Power Supply for Work Resumption
Release time:2024-02-26

Since February 18, the first round of cold wave in the Year of the Loong has struck China forcefully. Substantial temperature drops have occurred in most parts of the country, moving from west to east and from north to south. Widespread rain, snow, and freezing weather have been observed in the central and eastern regions.

Due to the impact of this cold wave and the post-holiday work and production resumption, the six cascade hydropower plants in the world's largest clean energy corridor are experiencing a continuous increase in power demand in their respective power distribution area. To ensure power supply, CYPC has proactively deployed preventive measures. It has intensified forecasting, increased communication and coordination with higher-level dispatching agency, and dynamically optimized the dispatching scheme and operation of cascade hydropower plants. Additionally, CYPC has established emergency duty shifts, enhanced risk management and control, and conducted thorough inspections and maintenance of equipment and facilities. It has also assigned technical experts to oversee the power supply, ensuring a simultaneous focus on both work safety and power supply.

From February 18 to 23, the accumulative power generation of the cascade hydropower plants exceeded 3.3 TWh. Currently, the cascade hydropower plants own over 90 available generating units, with a maximum power generation capacity exceeding 50,000 MW, providing a robust guarantee for power supply. With a strong sense of responsibility, CYPC will manage the dispatch and operation of these six "pillars of a great power" effectively, in order to contribute powerful driving forces to the economic and social development.
