On June 29, 2023, Karot HPP of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor celebrated the first year of operation and electricity generation milestone. Accumulatively, it has generated electricity of 3.643 TWh, equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions by more than 3 million tons. This Plant has the capacity to fulfill the electricity needs of approximately 5 million people in the region, contributing to global objectives of achieving "carbon neutrality" while promoting Pakistan's energy infrastructure, and economic and social development.
The Plant, with a total installed capacity of 720 MW, is a priority project for China-Pakistan energy cooperation. It is the first large-scale hydropower investment project under the "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor" framework. CTG is responsible for the investment, construction and operation of the Plant.
Adhering to the plan established by CTG, since 2019, CYPC has been actively recruiting experienced technicians to form an O&M team for the Plant. Following the "Integrated Construction with Management" philosophy, the team has actively participated in project construction in the early stage, and then took full responsibility of operation and maintenance of the Plant after the units began to generate power. Throughout this period, the team has remained committed to the "international, standardized, and localized" standards of operation and maintenance. Additionally, they have also developed two sets of standards, the "CTG Standard" and the "CYPC Solutions", in order to bolster the smooth and steady running of the Plant. As of June 29, 2023, the Plant has maintained a remarkable streak of 453 consecutive days without a single work-related safety incident.
In the following phase, CYPC's O&M team will prioritize safety management, prioritize lean management and technological innovation to further enhance the core strengths of O&M, provide high-quality O&M services for the Plant, contribute to Pakistan's sustainable development .
